Did you know that fruits and veggies are good for you? Ok, no brainer, but did you know adults should be getting 8-10 servings of those fruits and veggies EVERY DAY in order to see the health benefits?? Or that unless you’re eating a rich variety of different fruits and veggies on a regular basis, you’re still missing out? And yet, research from many different sources shows that we typically aren’t coming even close to getting our daily doses of fruits and veggies.
And then there’s the whole matter of exercise. Not moving enough puts us at risk for a whole host of preventable ailments, not to mention making our clothes fit a little tighter than we’d like them to! With all the benefits of eating right and getting enough exercise though, why do so few of us do so consistently? Why does it always seem like the healthy choice is so much harder?
I’ve shared a bit before on the blog, I have a fairly spotty history when it comes to diet and exercise. I love the way I feel when I’m exercising regularly and eating right, but all too often I let the busyness of life crowd out those healthy habits. During my single years, I found distance running to be a huge motivator for me to take proper care of my body – there was nothing like an upcoming half marathon to spur me on to train regularly and fuel my body well! With the advent of marriage and babies, however, I’ve found diet and exercise to be a lot more of a struggle. Instead of simply heading out for a run after work, I have to work around the demands of motherhood. My trips to the gym or fitness classes have given way to home workout videos. My running has pretty much turned into walking, aside from a few short months of casual running between pregnancies. Even heading out for a walk these days is a logistical feat…my daughter needs to have just used the potty, my son needs a clean diaper, they both need to have had sufficient snacks to make it through the walk, it can’t be too close to nap time, everyone needs weather-appropriate clothing… And then there’s the fact that I’m pregnant and have to push almost 100lbs of children and stroller! And even in the diet category, much as I strive to feed our family lots of healthy fruits and vegetables as part of an overall balanced diet, we still have much room for improvement!
So that’s where the RUVI Health Challenge hit me close to home. RUVI is an amazing new product from Thrive Life, specifically designed to help people be healthier and live thriving lives. RUVI is 26 individual fruits and veggies – nothing added, nothing removed – in 4 different drink blends, each adding up to 4 servings of fruits and vegetables. Suddenly getting those 10 servings of fruits and veggies every day doesn’t seem so hard!
As soon as RUVI launched, I knew it was the missing puzzle piece for me. I wanted to make a big splash, really change my bad habits and be a better steward of my body, so I committed that for 90 days, I will:
Stop an unhealthy habit
Start getting my recommended 10 daily servings of fruits and vegetables every day!
Go at least 7,500 steps or 25 minutes of exercise daily
Starting this challenge has certainly been a wake-up call, to say the least!
I will be documenting my experiences with my RUVI Health Challenge here on the blog, so be sure to stay tuned for my next post on all the ups and downs during the first two weeks!
